Seonag was turned back over this morning for some additional oiling and fettling.

The laminates that were glued up yesterday were taken off the jig and the excess glue cleaned off.

This is the final week of boatbuilding for the session and indeed the year as the school week next week is generally going to be a hectic one, so from all of us here at Am-Bata we wish you a happy christmas, and a safe new year, and thank you once again to all involved for your continued support.

Day 36

The planking from yesterday was fettled and fitted today and the trainees wrestled with the new port Garboard plank which was being stubborn,and was not wanting to go in!

This is quite a difficult plank to replace as when building a boat,it is the first one to be fitted on to the backbone,so when replacing later on in life,there is not much space because of the keel, to get a new piece in without damaging it or its older neighbouring plank.

Day 5

Today, the team continued to push on and get Seonag completely finished,and spent the morning coating the outer hull with Deks Olje,and doing some final fettling on the floorboards and new thwarts.

Work on the new build also progressed,with the stern apron and sternpost laminates being glued up and clamped to the jig.

New build Day 4

The floorboards for the Rectors boat were tidied up and undercoated today,and the sternpost and apron for the new build were glued up in the jig and left to set over the weekend.

New build Day 3

Work pushed on with the repair work to make space for the new build, as with including the evening class projects,there are now 4 boats in the boat shed in various states of completion,so work progressed on Seonag and her antifouling was applied,and left to dry.

The new build s stem and apron were taken out of the jig and excess hardened glue was cleaned off.

New build Day 2

Day 2 of the new build saw the stem profile being marked on on a piece of plywood, and a jig being bade up to laminate the stem and apron around.

In the afternoon,the laminates were glued and clamped around the jig,and left to set.

Year 4 Day 29-Newbuilt Day 1

Today marks the official start of this years new build, and the larch keel was cut and machined, and stored safely to the side.

Work continued on scraping Seonag, and she was turned over to gain access to the antifouling on her bottom.

Day 28

Today saw the new Seats in Seonag being fixed permanently, and the outer hull being given the heat gun and scraper treatment, a full new coating of antifouling and Deks Olje is to be applied.

Day 27

Today saw the inside of the Rectors boat being coated in a fresh coat of black bitumen like paint.

Work also progressed on fitting the sidebenches in seonag.

Today saw the official announcement come through that Am-bata has been successful in obtaining a commission for a new built for this academic year,the boat is to be a traditionally built larch on oak double ended shetland type skiff. The boat will be built for a Mr Fred Taylor who is one of Mark Stockl s good friend and Client from a few years back. More details on the boat to follow.

Today , work continued on Seonag s seats , and the final coating of Oxford blue was applied to the Rector s boat.
